Glee Graduation and my honor roll for the costume department

The Glee kids are crooning their swan songs not for this season’s National’s competition, but sadly, for graduation. Although the fourth season is surely in the works, our favorite show choir school rejects will never be the same high school seniors we learned to love – and so are their wardrobe! Here’s the (honor) roll for sartorial excellence!

Oh I love the costume department of Glee. Read on for my favorite picks!

A (honorable) mention for Rachel Berry and how her pleated school girl skirt and high socks ensemble evolved into a very tasteful vintage chic numbers of high waisted dresses and classic blouse and skirts. Both Rachel’s character exude a vibrant energy, as reflected by the yellows, oranges and green fabrics that she’s clad at every time we hear her do the episode’s solo. If not the usual epitome of happiness, she’s pictured along the school lockers with a top that’s either knitted or collared, and a skirt in basic and neutral colors perfect for the Rachel who’d kill her way to make her dreams come true. Although this “sexy school librarian chic” style raised the eyebrows of Santana and the rest of the school, Rachel is sure bringing the kitsch all the way to New York!

The knitted sweaters, argyle prints, checkered skirts and vintage dresses in happy colors and prints. Rachel's wide collection of gold necklaces (An "R", a star, and the one that says "Finn") is my favorite part of her outfits.

A recognition for the girl who experienced a third of her life in high school – pregnancy, identity crisis and car accident -- and whose closet undoubtedly grew subsequently with her, Quinn Fabray. Although the costume department has her stuck in cheerleading attire and maternity dresses for the whole first season, Quinn backs it up with sweet and feminine outfits in season two and the next. Ruffled and laced blouses consists her everyday wear, often in various prints and colors. And if Rachel keeps the “sexy” in her short school skirt signature, Quinn like her skirts to fall just above her knee – no wonder she’s once the president of the Celibacy club. And what tops off the Quinn look? A knitted cardigan, in all colors and textures, and sometimes an edgy blazer that compliments her dress. If there's anything good in Quinn being knocked off and out of Cheerios, it's her fresh outfits that show her lady-ness. Even the punk Quinn exhibit such grace!
Quinn, in her usual feminine prints and texture. I love how little details such as belts and laced ankle socks define her outfits. The usual brands are J. Crew and Anthropologie. The knitted cardigans are my favorite - especially this one with crochet white daisies on it!

For being witty, straightforward (but not straight!) and brave, Santana Lopez is sure an outstanding senior on Glee. And we do not only applaud her character but her style that’s both flirty and edgy. I know that this Latina in her cheerleading attire would suffice, but when she paraded that floral bustier and cropped leather jacket in the school hallways, I know that quitting the Cheerios was a better decision. Those striped sweetheart necklines and fringed leather vests spiced up her solos like salsa, and no one else can totally pull off a furry hat and denim overhaul without looking like a faux pas. Captaining the squad, belting out in a glee club assignment or owning the hallways cheerleading uniform or not), Santana tops this season and the graduating class’ list.

Going all Lima Heights in Santana Lopez and the edge of looks that are cute and sexy. Santana's outfit always show the toughness that her character carries in brave pieces such as that furry hat and fringe jacket. The bustiers are my favorite!

Running close the my honor roll are Tina, for her 60s go-go looks; Sugar Motta in her expensive, cutesy and over-rated looks and Emma (even if she's a faculty), in her string of outfits loyal to Kate Spade. I may have a love-hate relationship with Glee's storyline but I sure don't ran out of reasons not to watch it because of the great job the prod designer and costume department does!
